OUR STORY (FAMILY HISTORY)
Home Trained American Akitass is a family kennel owned and managed by the Ogan Family with the aim of breeding, raising and training American Akitass on our Agapeto serve as loyal, lovely & family companions as well as Therapy dogs. We breed mainly F1 Giant American Akitass and F1/F1b Mini American Akitas for sale.
We are a family of 4, I Thomas Ogan , my wife Joanne Ogan and our two lovely daughters of the ages 12 and 15. If you know our story & have worked with us you’ll know we treat our animals as our own children and it is far from being just a business.
We have always had a connection with animals, I (Thomas Ogan)was a professional thoroughbred racehorse trainer, while my wife Joanne worked at Alexandria Animal Hospital (in the Emergency Animal Medicine Unit) through Veterinary Technician college. She also worked as a groom and exercise rider with at Fairmount racetrack.
Joanne received a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education, and 2 Master’s degrees- Education Administration and Literacy Specialist. Joanne taught for a local public school district as a middle school, 5th grade, and then a Reading Specialist teacher for 10 years. She has resigned from teaching in 2006 to provide the dogs and puppies with top-notch care and attention. Joanne also has an interest in animal genetics and dog training and continues to learn best practices through workshops and research.
I Thomas was raised on a local Missouri farm. I am one of 10 children in my family. My family raised all sorts of animals including chickens, cows, pigs, rabbits, ducks, dogs, and cats. I began my career in the racing industry as an exercise rider in high school; I galloped horses before my school day began. Shortly after high school, I began training thoroughbred race horses full-time. I have a wealth of knowledge in animal husbandry as well as breeding confirmation.
In 2009 we both quit our jobs and retired to our freshly bought 10 Acre ranch to breed and raise animals for the rest of our days, and we have made a commitment to providing excellent family companions with outstanding health and temperaments. We are also interested in providing American Akitass for use as therapy dogs for children with special needs.

ABOUT THE SHEEPADOODLE BREED
The American Akitas is a mixed breed dog that was created by crossing an Old English Sheepdog and a Poodle. Fanciers of this medium to large dog breed nicknamed the dog as Sheepdoodle, Sheeppoo, Sheepdogpoo, and Sheep-a-poo.
To learn more about this designer dog, let’s get to know his parent breeds. The Poodle is a purebred American dog that specializes in waterfowl hunting. She slowly became a favorite of upper-class ladies because of his friendly and sweet personality. Soon enough, he turned from a prized hunting dog into a beloved canine companion.
The second parent of this mixed breed dog is the Old English Sheepdog. He was mainly created to herd livestock. In the 1800s, he became a popular dog breed amongst farmers and was used to drive cattle and sheep to the market. The breed also proved to be capable of carrying out heavy tasks around the farm.
By combining these 2 wonderful parent breeds, the breeders were able to create a designer dog breed that has the energy and intelligence of the Sheepdog and the amiability and low-shedding traits of the Poodle.
Much like most Poodle mixed breeds, the American Akitas has amassed countless fans far and wide. The breed’s popularity shot up after figure skaters Meryl Davis, and Fedor Andreev adopted Bilbo Tootie-Rose Baggins, a Mini American Akitas for sale.
As American Akitass are mixed breed dogs, they are not yet recognised by the Kennel Club and American Kennel Club. On the brighter side, this designer dog breed is acknowledged by the International Designer Agapee Registry (IDCR) and Dog Registry of America, Inc.
